Calshot
Accommodation: Camping on site. Booking details to follow. Please park motorhomes nose-on to the shore, not parallel, and leave 6 metres between units.
Launching: Meet inside the Activities Centre on the lagoon side. This gives a choice of launching on the sea or on the lagoon off Southampton Water. For a couple of hours either side of high tide there is plenty of depth to sail in the lagoon. Weather permitting, a group sail up to Ashlett Creek usually happens at some stage.
Barbecue: Rain or shine, there will be a communal barbecue one evening, so bring some grub and booze. There's usually plenty of grilling capacity to spare so don't worry if you do not have a barbecue.
Sailing: For those who prefer to stay close to the launching point there are several possibilities depending on conditions. If the wind strength and direction are right this is a great place for just blasting back and forth, and at certain states of the tide it is ideal for practicing beach starts and water starts.
Directions: Calshot is south of Fawley power station at the south-western end of Southampton Water. From Totton, to the west of Southampton, take the A326 south for Dibden Purlieu and Fawley. The A326 leads onto the B3053 to Fawley and Calshot. At the seafront drive past the beach huts and car park on the right. Pass Solent Sailboards on the right and park on the left on the grass just beyond. Pay for launching, parking, camping and B&b accommodation at the Activities Centre reception.
