Seavets was formed in 1984 to promote windsurfing as an
activity, convinced that an active life in middle age is
most likely to lead to a healthier and so happier old age.
Seavets has members from all over mainland Britain.
Promotes
responsible and sociable windsurfing for the "not so
young". Membership is open to those over 35 years old.
- Organises racing and recreational events for members
and encourages other organisers of windsurfing events to
include categories and to award prizes for the "not so
young".
- Supports the registered charity the
British Society for Research on Ageing.
- Encourages members to become qualified through Royal
Yachting Association approved courses.
From the beginning in 1983 the club was
closely linked with the medical research charity Research
Into Ageing (RiA) which was merged with Help the Aged in
2001 and later with Age UK. Between £2,000 and £3,000 has
been raised by Seavets each year for the last few years,
and about £80,000 has been donated to RiA since 1986.
Following a change in research policy by Age UK Seavets
members decided to change our supported charity to the
British Society for Research on Ageing, taking effect from
the beginning of 2016.
Seavets is affiliated to the Royal
Yachting Association.

Seavets
Needs You: Situations Vacant. Honorary Secretary, Newsletter Editor and two
Committee Members.Since Steve Fletcher has
stepped up to be our next Chairman, we are in
need of a new Hon. Secretary. As one of the four
officers of our club, the Secretary's post is
important, but not onerous, comprising chiefly of
producing the agenda and taking minutes at
committee meetings (4 times a year), and at the
AGM, and some small administrative duties. Please
contact Steve for details. |
Facebook: A closed (Seavets Members only) group has been created on Facebook to provide a forum for members to exchange views, information, photos, etc. Currently there are 58 members. If you want to join, you have to be registered on Facebook, then search for Seavets and ask to join. If you have a problem contact Derrick, Jean or Ruth.
A second linked group has also just been added for Seavet Social Sailors - more details on the Social Sailing Page.
If you are concerned about privace and security on Facebook check out their advice here. If you want to limit your activity and number of friends then remember that you can confine who asks to be your 'Friend' to friends of friends, so if you are choosy about who you allow to be your friends you should not be pestered by people you have never heard of. I guess that you could have no friends or only one friend, but haven't tried that myself - just say no to friend requests. |
Please advise Derrick
and/or Ruth of any website problems, errors or if you wish to
contribute additional content. |
